Yemeni Mocha Coffee

Yemeni coffee has a great history engraved in the Yemenis' memories ; it is considered as a link between all the Yemeni generations . coffee can bring back the role that Yemen played economically and socially and help overcome the Yemeni coffee challenges . such importance for the Yemeni coffee encouraged a number of Yemen traders , exporters , manufacturers , farmers , and marketing people to join hands establish an association called " The Yemeni coffee Association" in march , 2007 . This association represents all the Yemeni coffee groups in Yemen .



- Gathering the efforts of all those involved in producing coffee , making them aware of the important of coffee and its economic and social roles , and urging them to continue growing coffee and improving its quantity and quality .
- Urging the Yemeni government to give priority to reclaiming plots of land allocated for growing coffee to increase its production and encourage Yemenis to work in coffee fields and processing labs .  
- Improving coffee production and its quality to be able to compete at the international level .









Yemen Mocha Coffee:


Yemen is reputed from ancient time by planting Mocha coffee, which is the best type of coffee in the world. Yemen is the original place for coffee and the Yemen person is the first one who planted this crop and let it be the first drink in the world level.
Yemeni coffee is distinguished with its unique flavor and fashionable taste, which is not found in any other coffee. It does not need any definition because it internationally reputed since ancient times and called “Yemen Mocha” as related to Mocha reputed port where the coffee was exported through it in that time. It is still known by this name in many world countries up to now.


Scientific studies made by international and Arabic institutions concerned with coffee planting, proved that, Yemen is the only country of the world where the coffee tree is planted in different climate factors differs from other areas of the world.











Coffee Planting Zones:

Yemen coffee is planted in different regions in the country extending at 1000-1700 m above sea level, in valleys descending from the western, central and southern heights and in mountains steps especially in the ranges opposite to Tehamma. The planted area of coffee is between 900-1000 trees per one hectare.

The warm climate and the sufficient quantity of water is the ideal environment for coffee tree growing. The skilful of the Yemeni farmer is clear in the plain mountains steps at height reaching 1700 m over sea level whereas these steps of coffee to what is similar to hanging gardens.

 
Items of Yemen Coffee:

World defines the Yemen coffee by MOCHA COFFEE and 

Coffee is sorted into three categories according to its quality:

Matari Coffee and Ismaieli Coffee are on the top class.
Sanani Coffee is in the second class.
Haiymi Coffee is in the third class.
Approved methods for harvesting the coffee crop:
Harvesting of coffee in Yemenis prevailing in traditional methods. Farmers often harvest the crop in stages whereas the crop is harvested in a way that permits keeping its good quality and competition. When ever the color of the crop due to bright red color the farmer starts to harvest it. he color will change into light red until it ripens and the color changes to violet or dark gray for cutting by the farmer. In this case it is immediately harvested.


Draught of Coffee:
Draught of coffee is the most complicated process of preparing the harvest for marketing so it requires more care from the farmers to ensure the required quantity and flavor. After the collection of the harvest it will be exposed to sunlight and placed in dry areas for one or 2 weeks.

Removing Shells:
Peeling of the coffee crop is representing the last step for marketing coffee. This process is to automatically removing the shell from the green coffee. Then to get rid of any uninterested parts from the green coffee so as to be pure (100%), Then it will be marketed and exported.
